Kickass Kid of the Day: Avery Canahuati has made astonishing progress on her bucket list: throw out a first pitch; get a driver’s license; get asked out for Valentine’s Day. She doesn’t have the leisure of time, however.
Avery, just five months old, was born with spinal muscular atrophy, a genetic terminal illness that means she is unlikely to make it past her second birthday. So Avery’s parents, Mike and Laura, are doing everything they can to make the most of the time Avery does have left, and they’re keeping track of their adventures on Avery’s Bucket List, written as if by Avery herself, as well as on Facebook and Twitter.
Number one on Avery’s list is to meet Ellen Degeneres:
“I think Ellen is the perfect person to help me spread my message about SMA because she’s compassionate, funny, and wants to meet inspirational people, which apparently some people think I am.”
Avery currently is welcoming ideas to add to her bucket list.
